LP To Hold Nat’l Convention In Umuahia, April 28

Labour Party (LP) has announced that its National Convention in Umuahia, Abia State capital, will hold on April 28, 2026.

The party made this known in a letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), jointly signed by the acting National Chairman, Sen. Esther Nenadi Usman, and its National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha.

According to the letter, the Ward and Local Government Congresses will hold on April 23 and 24, respectively, to elect party executives.

The letter, which was dated Tuesday, March 31, 2026 and received at the office of the INEC Chairman the same day, also stated that its state congress will hold on April 25.

According to the party, the letter was written pursuant to section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 (as amended), INEC Regulations and Guidelines for political parties, and Section 223(1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which mandate political parties to inform the commission of their congresses, conventions and meetings.

Recall that LP had earlier notified INEC of the postponement of the congresses and national convention to allow it to complete its digital membership registration.
