Lottery industry contributes N200bn to GDP – Abbas


The Nigerian lottery industry added over N200bn to the country’s Gross Domestic Product in 2023, according to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

The announcement was made in Abuja during the launch of Mr Lottery: The Story of Lanre Gbajabiamila @ 60, a biography authored by the Director-General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Lanre Gbajabiamila.

According to a statement, Abbas, who was represented by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, praised the lottery sector’s transformation under Gbajabiamila’s leadership.

“Lanre Gbajabiamila has not only redefined the lottery industry but has made significant contributions to national development.

“His dedication to innovation and transparency has elevated this sector from obscurity to being a major contributor to Nigeria’s economy.”

The event drew lawmakers, industry stakeholders, and dignitaries who celebrated Gbajabiamila’s professional and personal achievements. Kalu described Gbajabiamila as a visionary leader whose resilience has propelled the sector forward.
