Logistics Theft Costs Nigeria Billions – New Solution Found

The Chief Executive Officer of SysServe Solutions Limited, Jerry Okogbue, says delivery delays and thefts cost Nigeria’s logistics sector billions annually due to poor visibility and lack of journey control systems.

Okogbue made this observation during a media parley recently to push for the mitigation of losses in the Haulage and Logistics subsector, which is estimated to run into several billions annually with the introduction of an intelligent Journey Management System.

He said, “In Nigeria alone, the logistics and transport sector loses billions annually due to delivery delays, fraud, theft in transit, and vehicle downtime, all tied to poor visibility and a lack of structured journey control systems.”

The Chief Operating Officer, Johnson Owoeye, explained that for over seven years working closely with transporters and cargo owners, he noticed that despite the heavy investments in tracking systems and ERPs, many still struggle to optimise operations and are unable to answer basic but critical questions needed to filter systemic shortfalls.

He said, “In many cases, transport teams still rely on calls to drivers or WhatsApp messages to obtain journey status updates or share proof of delivery documents, which causes billing delays and makes data-driven decision-making and process improvement nearly impossible.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Technical Officer, Kazeem Balogun, added that this was the reason the product was built, saying, “This is why we built Instanta Haulage, a journey management and monitoring system that utilises AI and geofencing technology to automatically track key milestones, including exact loading, offloading, departure and arrival times, turnaround times, delays, goods lost in transit, and minute-by-minute journey events, all without requiring manual driver input.”

According to the sales lead at Sysserve, Adeola Atoki, Instanta Haulage is already helping companies across various industries, including oil and gas, third-party logistics firms, and FMCG distribution, among others, gain real-time visibility and control that legacy systems simply cannot provide.

“Instanta Haulage can help eliminate manual tracking delays and guesswork in haulage operations. It will improve turnaround time tracking, monitor goods in transit, reduce losses, and gain visibility across every trip, without relying on calls or WhatsApp updates,” she explained.

Corroborating that the manual process reduces confidence in the operational reports that guide billing and optimisation, the marketing lead at Sysserve, Rukayat Ajibade, noted that the process was stressful, disjointed, and highly prone to errors.

She added, “It consumes valuable time and creates blind spots that make it difficult to make quality decisions or gain meaningful operational insight. That is why we built Instanta Haulage, a journey management and monitoring system built specifically for transporters and cargo owners to gain real-time visibility and control over haulage operations from trip planning to delivery, billing and reporting.

“It utilises AI and geofencing technology to automatically track key milestones, including exact loading, offloading, departure and arrival times, turnaround times, delays, goods lost in transit and minute-by-minute journey events, all without requiring manual driver input.”
