LG introduces smart dehumidifier to the Nigerian market

LG Electronics on Tuesday launched its Smart Dehumidifier in Nigeria, targeting rising indoor humidity levels that are affecting homes, offices, and commercial spaces, particularly during the rainy season and in coastal cities. The product is designed to create healthier, drier, and more comfortable indoor environments while protecting furniture, fabrics, and air quality.

The launch, part of LG’s commitment to climate-responsive innovations, makes the dehumidifier available across all Fouani showrooms nationwide. The appliance is aimed at homes, offices, hospitality spaces, and commercial environments where high humidity has become a growing concern.

In his opening remarks, the General Manager of Eco Solutions at LG Electronics Nigeria, Joonkyu Song, said the launch reflects the company’s understanding of changing lifestyle needs in Nigeria.

“Many Nigerians experience the discomfort of excess humidity without fully realising its long-term effect on health, indoor air quality, and household assets. With the LG Smart Dehumidifier, we are introducing a solution that not only improves comfort but also protects homes, supports healthier living, and delivers energy-efficient performance suited for our environment,” he said.

The appliance operates quietly at about 33 decibels, allowing it to function effectively in bedrooms, offices, and living spaces without causing disturbance. The launch features two models: the 34-litre (DD20GMWE1) and the 28-litre (MD16GQWE0), both equipped with LG’s dual inverter compressor technology to optimise energy use while controlling humidity.

LG’s ThinQ technology enables users to remotely monitor and control the dehumidifier through smartphones, including switching it on, scheduling operation, monitoring energy usage, and receiving alerts when the water tank is full. The appliance also includes a waist-level push-and-pull handle, 360-degree caster wheels, and a transparent water tank for easy use. Accessories such as the Shoe Dry Y-hose and Closet Dry T-hose provide targeted drying for enclosed spaces like wardrobes and shoes.

Speaking on market availability, the Showroom Branch Manager at Colours by Fouani Nigeria Limited, Victoria Island, Mr Mohamed Hobballah, said the launch addresses growing consumer demand for indoor wellness products.

“Today’s consumers are paying closer attention to air quality, comfort, and health within their homes and offices. The LG Smart Dehumidifier answers that need by bringing premium global technology into the Nigerian market through accessible retail channels nationwide,” he said.

The Smart Dehumidifier can remove up to 30 litres of moisture per day, equivalent to extracting water from 120 bottles of 250 millilitres each, making it suitable for moisture-heavy environments in cities such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Kano. At its core is LG’s Dual Inverter Compressor technology, which automatically adjusts dehumidification intensity based on surrounding humidity levels. This feature helps maintain efficient moisture control while reducing energy consumption.

In addition to moisture management, the appliance supports healthier indoor air through its HEPA H13-graded Safe Plus Filter, which reduces dust, bacteria, allergens, and airborne particles often associated with damp indoor conditions.

A health practitioner and food safety expert, Dr Eniola Oni, from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, described the product as timely, particularly in regions where moisture affects walls, fabrics, and furniture.

“Humidity is an everyday reality in many Nigerian homes, especially in coastal and high-density urban areas. Introducing a product like this helps consumers take proactive control of their indoor environment,” she said. Dr Oni added that controlling indoor moisture helps prevent mould and mildew growth, which can trigger respiratory issues and allergies.

The launch strengthens LG’s smart home and wellness product category in Nigeria and reinforces the company’s strategy of delivering practical innovations tailored to local environmental conditions.
