LAWMA Refutes Misleading Lagos Waste Management Reports

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has condemned a misleading report circulated by an online platform.

In a statement on Thursday, the Director of Public Affairs at LAWMA, Mukaila Sanusi, explained that the online platform, Lagos Reporter, falsely presented visuals of previously cleared locations as evidence of inaction.

LAWMA clarifies that the locations referenced in the report had already been cleared by its waste evacuation teams “in line with ongoing clearance operations across the state.”

The agency noted that misrepresenting such visuals without proper verification creates a false narrative, misleads the public, and undermines coordinated efforts to maintain environmental sanitation in Lagos.

LAWMA urges members of the public to rely on information from verified and official sources while reaffirming its commitment to sustained waste evacuation, enforcement of environmental laws, and public engagement.

The agency also calls for responsible reporting based on verified facts and adherence to best practices in journalism.

LAWMA is the statutory agency responsible for managing solid waste and environmental sanitation in Lagos State. It was established by the Lagos State Government to address the growing challenges of waste generation arising from rapid urbanisation, population growth, and economic activities in the state.
