LASU Staff Unions Vow To Sustain Indefinite Strike

Lagos State University (LASU) workers yesterday vowed that their ongoing indefinite strike, declared since December 6, will continue and sustained until all the demands are met by the Lagos State Governor, and Visitor to the university, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The various staff unions in the state-owned institutions, include the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU); Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU); and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), have embarked on indefinite strike over disparity in the salary of university workers and other state-owned tertiary institutions.

Addressing journalists yesterday at a press conference, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the four unions, listed the contentious issues and demands to include implementation of the 25 per cent of 35 per cent salary increase for all staff of tertiary institutions in Lagos State based on the agreement between the Federal Government and staff unions in the nation’s higher institutions.

Other demands are; harmonisation of salary disparity between LASU staff and other state-owned tertiary institutions; and implementation of the New National Minimum Wage for members of the unions in line with the relevant procedures and processes as approved by the National Minimum Wage Law, 2024.
