Despite the fluctuating exchange rate and other operational challenges, vessel activities have recorded a significant surge at Lagos port in the past week, findings by The PUNCH have shown.

The Nigerian Ports Authority’s Daily Shipping Position between March and date showed that since the first day of April 2025, different vessels with different cargoes, including aviation fuel, used vehicles, and wheat, among others, visited the ports.

The document showed that on March 29, a vessel named Bold Mariner came with 20,000 metric tonnes of bulk sugar, while another vessel came with containers on April 5.

“On Tuesday, April 1, another vessel came with 21,000 mt of Jet A1 Automatic Gasoline Oil. On April 7, the Grimaldi Shipping Line came with 500 units of used vehicles,” the document stated.

Meanwhile, on March 22, a vessel, Jin Rong, came with 41,111 mt of general cargo, while on April 1, another vessel, Heartlau, berthed with 14,299 mt of bulk wheat.

“On March 31, Ocean Network Express berthed with containers.”

Other terminals, like ENL, saw increased activity with bulk cargo shipments, including bulk wheat, frozen foods, and general cargoes, among others, between March 24 and the last day of March. However, terminal vacancies were observed in certain areas, such as ENL, where five berths remained empty.

In total, about 28 vessels have visited various ports and terminals in the country from March to date.
