The Lagos Airport Hotel is set for a comprehensive redevelopment following the reopening of its newly renovated Harold Block rooms.
The Group Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, owners of the hotel, disclosed this during the unveiling ceremony held on Tuesday in Lagos.
He noted that the facelift of the Harold Block, which involved the renovation of 51 rooms and corridors, was only the first step in a larger redevelopment plan.
He said, “This hotel was founded in 1942 by a British proprietor, Joseph Harold, as a modest five-room establishment under Grand Hotel Lagos.
He added, “In 1956, it became Ikeja Arms Inn and was renamed Lagos Airport Hotel in 1976 following the Indigenisation Decree.
It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, representing the joint interests of the six South-West states: Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, and Lagos.”
He explained that the Harold Block was named in honour of the founder and that the renovation signalled a “strategic refresh of value and experience”.
“But let me be clear, the vision for this hotel extends beyond today’s reopening.
The future of Lagos Airport Hotel lies in a holistic redevelopment plan that reimagines the property into a mixed-use hospitality and commercial destination,” he added.
He added that the long-term plan would integrate hospitality, conferencing, retail, lifestyle, and possibly serviced residences to unlock greater value for the business and its shareholders.
Group Managing Director, OICL, Abdulrahman Yinusa, represented by Executive Director and Group Chief Investment and Business Development Officer, Yemi Ajao, affirmed the company’s resolve to execute the redevelopment plan in the coming years.
Ajao remarked, “How we have envisioned the Lagos Airport Hotel brand evolving over the next decade requires us to have a note of innovation like this.
“The bigger vision is a more elaborate redevelopment of Lagos Airport Hotel that would metamorphose into a one-stop hospitality location with a multi-use type of arrangement.”
He noted that the future plan would include an apartment complex, office spaces, a convention centre, and expanded hotel rooms to draw customers through complementary facilities.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lagos Airport Hotel Limited, Oyeleye Fasua, said the renovation was a clear statement of management’s renewed commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction.
Fasua said, “This successful project is a testimony to the power of collaboration and shared vision across the Odu’a Investment Group. In beautifying our driveway and improving the general ambience of the hotel premises, LAHL has taken additional steps to enhance the guest experience.”
He added that the board remained committed to repositioning the hotel as a competitive player in the modern hospitality sector.
