Kwara APC To Adopt Consensus To Pick Candidates

The Chairman of the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Sunday Fagbemi, has disclosed that the party may employ consensus arrangements to produce its candidates for the 2027 general elections.

He made this remark during the visit of an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for the Oke Ero/Isin/Ifelodun federal constituency, Mrs Florence Oyeyemi.

The State Chairman said that the party would streamline the number of aspirants for various political positions to have a united family.

Prince Fagbemi, who described the APC as a single family, said that the party leadership would remove all variables that could cause ripples before, during and after the general elections.

He assured that the party would be fair to all concerned during the process, irrespective of age, gender or religion, adding that the process would be made easy by the time it is concluded.

“I pray we’re not going to go through rancorous primaries, but the party would come up with a guideline in due course. So, we’ll be able to streamline and choose among the contestants. I want you to realise one thing. You should not make this a do-or-die affair.

“APC is a single family. We don’t want any situation that will tear us apart. You can see that from the Ward, local government, senatorial, states and geopolitical zones we did our congresses peacefully, and finally we did well at the National Convention.

“That’s the spirit I want everyone to carry along. So that by the time we choose, it will be easy for us. One thing I want you to know is that we’ll be fair to all, irrespective of gender, religion or age,” he said.

The APC Chairman also advised the aspirant to have continuous personal engagements with members of her constituency in order to sell herself to the people..igj

“I want to encourage you to go back to the grassroots and endear yourself to the people. Let them see you as the best among all, to enable the people to vote for you,” he admonished the Aspirant.

Meanwhile, the Aspirant for the House of Representatives position, Hon Mrs Florence Oyeyemi, said the impressive performance of the APC government at both the state and national levels informed her decision to aspire for the position.

“APC has been a party of strength, change and progressiveness. You can see how we’ve grown over a period of time in the state and Nigeria at large. You can see the work that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been doing, where I served as Commissioner for Finance and Planning between 2019 and 2023. Coming back home, I can see direct development that has impacted the lives of the people.

“At the national level, President Bola Tinubu’s policies have improved macroeconomic indices. These are the reasons why I’ve decided to jointly collaborate with the governor of the state and President Tinubu to see what I can contribute massively at the National Assembly level”, she said.
