Kwankwaso Defection: We Recorded Membership Surge

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Monday, said there has been a surge in its online registration platform in the last 24 hours, prior to the defection of former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, from the party to ADC.

New Telegraph had earlier reported that Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State, defected to ADC on Monday, March 30.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement on Monday, said it is a sign that more Nigerians are beginning to align with a different path forward.

The party stated that Senator Kwankwaso’s decision to join ADC speaks to what many Nigerians already feel: “that the country needs leadership that understands the challenges people face every day and is ready to take responsibility for fixing them.”

It added that the former Kano State governor’s experience in governance, his strong grassroots connection, and his ability to bring people together make him a valuable part of the collective effort to rebuild Nigeria.

“As part of this move, he has also encouraged members of his political movement and supporters across the country to join the ADC, adding strength to this growing coalition for change.

“This reflects a growing recognition that Nigeria needs a new direction, and that the time has come for leaders and citizens alike to come together around a credible alternative that puts people first,” ADC said.

The party told Senator Kwankwaso’s supporters and Nigerians who believe that Nigeria can work better, that this is the moment they are looking for.

“The ADC is not just a political party. It is a shared commitment to building a country where people can live with dignity, find opportunity, and trust that the system will work for them.

“Change does not happen by chance. It happens when people come together with purpose,” the party added.

According to the party, the presence of key ADC leaders, including the National Chairman, Senator David Mark, the National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, members of the National Working Committee, and leading presidential aspirants such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, as well as respected party leaders like Senator Liyel Imoke and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, at Kwankwaso’s defection, “reflects a party that is united, focused, and steadily building momentum.
