‘King Of The Hill’ Actor Jonathan Joss Shot Dead By Neighbour

Renowned American actor Jonathan Joss, best known for his ‘King of the Hill’ role, is dead.

The 59-year-old actor was shot dead on Sunday, June 1, 2025, by his neighbour, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, during a dispute in San Antonio.

The San Antonio Police Department on Monday said Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 56, has been arrested and charged with murder.

Officers were dispatched to Dorsey Drive around 7p.m. Sunday for a shooting and arrived to find the actor, whose legal name is Jonathan Joss Gonzales, near the roadway after he was shot, police said.

Authorities attempted life-saving measures until EMS arrived and pronounced Joss dead.

Police have not released any other information on the shooting, including a motive, but said Monday afternoon the homicide unit of the San Antonio Police Department was investigating Joss’ death.

“Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation,” SAPD said on X.

But Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, alleged in a social media post that Joss was killed in a homophobic attack at the site of their old home.

While living there, Kern de Gonzales said, the couple was “harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship,” adding that “much of the harassment was openly homophobic.”

He said the couple was at the house, checking the mail, when they noticed the skull of their dog and the dog’s harness placed out front, causing them to begin “yelling and crying.”

A man approached them and yelled slurs at them, Kern de Gonzales said. The man then fired at the couple, he wrote.

“Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,” Kern de Gonzales said in the social media post.
