Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has received recognition as it got the Quality Assured Construction Company of the Year Award for its engineering and construction activities.
According to a statement, Julius Berger received the award at the 11th Nigeria Transport Lecture and Awards held recently in Lagos.
The Editor-in-Chief of Transport Day Newspaper, Frank Kintum, while presenting the award, described Julius Berger as “a solid trailblazer in quality work”, noting that the firm has consistently demonstrated world-class expertise in Nigeria’s highly competitive construction industry.
Kintum said, “I wish to state without mincing words that the company’s signature projects abound across Nigeria to the extent that once you drive on a road constructed by Julius Berger, you easily know, and you enjoy the experience for several years, all because of its standard, quality and class.”
He added that the Awards Screening Committee found the company worthy of the honour for its outstanding delivery, stressing, “Julius Berger is doing great work in the construction sector, and that makes them outstanding.”
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr Kayode Opeifa, who presented the award to the Regional Technical Manager (Region West), Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Thomas Christl, praised the company for its consistent delivery of durable roads and infrastructure that support Nigeria’s transportation system.
Opeifa stated, “The efforts of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc cannot go unnoticed in terms of prompt delivery and good and durable roads that also help in the transportation system of the country.”
He described the company as “a frontier in Nigeria’s construction system” and urged it to continue its impactful work across the country.
Responding, Christl expressed gratitude to the organisers and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to high-quality standards. He said, “As it is known for, Julius Berger will always maintain its globally acclaimed quality standard as we continue to transform challenges on the sites into tangible opportunities for the good of all.”
The event also featured a lecture by Opeifa, who called for policy reforms and long-term strategies, including a transition to gas and electric buses. He stressed the need for proper road designs with designated parking spaces to ease congestion, particularly in Lagos.
Dignitaries at the event included the Lagos State Governor, represented by the State Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Akin George Fashola; Assistant Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (Lagos and Ogun States), Ann Oladayo; and the Dean, Lagos State University School of Transport and Logistics, Prof. Charles Asinime.
Other Julius Berger representatives at the event included Oghenerhaye Mercy and Ogunyemi Mobolaji of the MRO.
