JMG Leads Campaign for Renewable Energy Systems in Lagos

JMG Limited has intensified advocacy for renewable energy systems, taking its campaign for sustainable engineering and solar adoption to the streets of Lagos through an engineering walk aimed at deepening awareness around inclusive energy solutions.

Held to commemorate World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, the walk on Friday commenced at JMG’s head office in Victoria Island and attracted participation from engineering students from the University of Lagos and Yaba College of Technology, members of professional engineering bodies, influencers and employees.

Participants, including members of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, joined the initiative to promote sustainable engineering practices and solar adoption.

Speaking at the event, JMG’s Chief Commercial Officer, Rabi Jammal, said the campaign was designed to highlight the importance of sustainable engineering.

“We want to shine a light on a very important issue: sustainable engineering. It is about designing systems that are efficient, reliable, and built to last. Solar energy is one part of that conversation, but the bigger picture is how engineering can sustainably power our lives and industries,” Jammal said.

The company noted that rising energy costs and inconsistent power supply have increased the need for engineering-driven solutions that reduce dependence on expensive and environmentally degrading energy sources. It added that integrating cleaner energy options such as solar into broader engineering systems could support sustainable infrastructure.

The JMG boss stated that the company’s operations span power generation, electrical infrastructure, vertical transportation, cooling systems and air compressors, with a focus on efficiency, reduced energy consumption and environmental responsibility.

He identified solar adoption as a key enabler within JMG’s integrated engineering framework, citing affordability, reliability and its ability to complement engineering systems across residential, commercial and industrial spaces.

He added that initiatives such as the Engineering Walk were aimed at extending access to sustainable solutions beyond large corporations to everyday Nigerians, including those in smaller homes and apartments.

The CEO stated that the company had powered its headquarters with solar energy as part of a wider engineering system to demonstrate practical implementation of sustainable practices.

The Plant Manager, Fouad El Chami, reinforced the position, stating, “Sustainable engineering is about continuous development, improving how we use energy and how we integrate new technologies into our systems. Solar plays an important role because it helps reduce overall consumption and supports a cleaner environment. But beyond that, it is about creating efficient, cost-effective engineering solutions that respond to today’s energy realities.”

Chami added that integrated engineering solutions supported by cleaner energy sources were critical to addressing concerns around power supply, rising energy costs and environmental impact for homes and businesses.

Participants in the walk emphasised the need for a unified approach to energy solutions driven by engineering innovation, sustainability and accessibility.
