The African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Friday, said it is proceeding with its planned congresses and national convention despite the derecognition of its leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
New Telegraph had earlier reported that INEC on Wednesday said it would not monitor ADC congresses, convention and meetings because of the Court of Appeal judgement on the party’s leadership tussle.
However, the party, in a joint statement by its National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, and National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said it is going ahead with the congresses and convention.
Abdullahi, in a post on X, told party members that “Despite INEC’s illegal actions, the ADC will continue with its congress as scheduled, having duly notified INEC by our letters dated 27th February, 2026, and 28 March, 2026.
According to the released timetable, the party’s polling unit, ward and local government congresses will hold on April 9, while the state congress is on April 10.
The ADC said it will hold a non-elective national convention in Abuja on April 14.
The party had accused INEC of wrong interpretation of the Court of Appeal judgement, and called for the sack of the commission’s Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan, SAN, and National Commissioners.
