‘I Had To Seek Therapy After Playing Wura’

Nollywood actress Scarlet Gomez has revealed that she sought therapy due to the emotional toll that her role in the hit TV series “Wura” imposed on her mental health.

The actor, who portrays the strong and vicious Wura-Amoo Adeleke, claimed that the role’s intensity persisted long after she left the set.

Speaking on a recent edition of Paul and Baaj, hosted by Paul Utomi and Baaj Adebule, Gomez said the character’s attitude persisted, affecting her day-to-day interactions and prompting her spouse to remark on the shift in her outlook.

Gomez emphasised that leaving a persona can be more difficult than taking it on, especially after a long time.

She said, “I had to do therapy after Wura because it was bad. I went back to my YouTube jobs… and I’m supposed to play the victim, and somebody’s talking to me, and I’m looking at the person like, ‘Do you know who I am?’ I heard people call me number one, I felt like I was Wura”.

“I always tell people that, especially if you’ve played a character for a long time, getting into a character is easier than getting out of it,” she remarked.

She emphasised the value of putting mental health first and urged others to get assistance when necessary.

Recall that the Showmax series Wura has drawn praise for its compelling story and complex cast of characters.

The program, which portrays Gomez as a well-liked businesswoman with a cruel side, has struck a chord with viewers and won accolades for its handling of difficult subjects.
