How The Ohiri Sisters Energised AFRIFF Closing Gala

The 2024 edition of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) concluded with a vibrant showcase that highlighted the continent’s rich cultural diversity.

The closing gala, curated by the entertainment and event planning company Gocreationz, seamlessly blended traditional and contemporary performances, featuring music and dance acts from across Africa.

The event celebrated this year’s theme, “Indigenous to Global: Cultural Wealth for Global Prosperity,” and left a lasting impression by showcasing Africa’s dynamic cultural heritage.

Gocreationz’ founder, Gloria Ohiri, emphasised that the company’s focus on storytelling and artistry aligns perfectly with AFRIFF’s mission to promote African cinema and storytelling worldwide.

“At Gocreationz, we believe in the transformative power of storytelling to bridge cultures and inspire global collaboration. Curating AFRIFF’s closing gala gave us the chance to honor Africa’s rich heritage and its creative energy, proving that our stories are both deeply rooted and universally resonant,” Gloria shared.

The night kicked off with a powerful performance from award-winning folk singer, chanter, and actor Debbie Ohiri, Gloria’s sister.

Debbie’s soulful chants and cultural renditions set a captivating tone for the evening. As an accomplished performer, Debbie has appeared in several notable productions, including the globally acclaimed stage play Hear Word, Elesin Oba, Castle and Castle, Itura, The Griot, and Anikulapo. She is also preparing to curate folk music workshops at the Lagos Fringe Festival.

Gloria, a trained dance artist, choreographer, costumier, and stylist, brings her expertise to various creative projects, from theatre and music videos to TV shows and festivals. Her clients include Femi and Made Kuti’s dance queens, Zeeworld Dance, and Naija Dance (2023, 2024). She has also contributed her styling and costuming skills to The Price Is Right Nigeria Game Show.
