Housewife who threw her newly born baby in Lokoja gutter arrested in Kogi

A housewife who threw her newborn baby boy into a gutter has been arrested by Karaworo residents in Lokoja and handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday.

For dumping her newborn baby boy in a gutter, the middle-aged woman is now in NSCDC custody in Lokoja.

According to DAILY POST findings, the housewife, identified as Barikisu Sulaiman, had been dating a man in Adankolo after her husband fell ill.

She was arrested following a tip-off by her close friend in Kabawa, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

DAILY POST gathered that the friend, moved by the condition of the abandoned baby, informed an elderly man in Karaworo and confessed that her friend (Barikisu) once told her she was seven months pregnant for one of her husband’s boys residing in Adankolo.

The husband’s boy, identified as Angulu Namama, who is currently at large, reportedly rejected the pregnancy and advised her (Barikisu) to abort the unwanted pregnancy.

Barikisu confessed that she threw her one-day-old infant into the gutter beside her window shortly after delivering him at home because she had cheated on her sick husband.

She wept profusely as she spoke with DAILY POST at the Command headquarters in Lokoja, saying she loved her child.

DAILY POST had reported last week that a day-old baby boy, who had been dumped in a gutter by his mother, was found alive, hale, and hearty in Karaworo, near Kutepa Juma’at Mosque in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Paul Igwebuike, told DAILY POST that the suspect, Barikisu Sulaiman, is now in their custody.

“The woman was handed over to my command by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Kogi State. The crime of the woman is that she had been married to another man, with whom she has six children. The man suffered a spinal cord injury, which has rendered him invalid.

“Unfortunately, she became pregnant out of wedlock. She later threw her baby from upstairs due to the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy. We are keeping her in custody as NSCDC is collaborating with the Ministry of Women Affairs to ensure sanity in our state,” he stated.
