Henshaw Raises Awareness On Menopause, Hormonal Balance

Nollywood actress and activist, Kate Henshaw, has called for increased awareness and informed management of hormonal health among women, as she championed a nationwide wellness campaign at the official unveiling of Efamol Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) in Nigeria.

The launch, held in Lagos during the 2026 Continuing Education Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Lagos State Chapter, brought together pharmacists, healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders to spotlight the importance of internal balance in women’s health.

Speaking during a panel session, Henshaw shared her personal experience with menopause, stressing the need for better awareness and proactive health decisions among women.

“I never knew the symptoms and effects of menopause until just after age 50, when I realised that what I was feeling in my body were actually menopausal symptoms,” she said.

She noted that while hormonal changes are a natural phase of life, effective management requires proper knowledge, discipline and access to scientifically backed solutions.

Her remarks underscored the campaign’s central message of shifting attention from cosmetic or external fixes to addressing underlying health conditions, particularly hormonal imbalance.

Also speaking, Managing Director of Pontisalus Pharmacy, Ibukun Tola-Ogunyemi, said there is a growing demand among Nigerian consumers for evidence-based wellness products recommended by professionals.

According to her, Efamol EPO offers pharmacists a reliable option due to its high Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) content and strong clinical backing, distinguishing it from generic supplements in the market.

On her part, menopause advocate and founder of a menopause support initiative, Mosunmola Dosumu, highlighted the need to demystify menopause and improve support systems for women.

She explained that hormonal decline, especially reduced oestrogen levels, can significantly affect skin health, hydration and overall comfort, adding that menopause should be seen as a manageable life stage rather than a condition to fear.

Dosumu further emphasised the role of nutritional interventions, including essential fatty acids, in improving skin elasticity and reducing discomfort associated with hormonal changes.

In his remarks, Chief Executive Officer of New Heights Pharmaceuticals Limited, Ogheneochuko Omaruaye, assured stakeholders of the product’s availability nationwide.

He said the company has partnered with pharmacies across the country to ensure easy access to Efamol EPO, which meets international quality standards.

“At New Heights Pharmaceuticals Limited, we have strategically partnered with leading pharmacies across the country to ensure that consumers can easily access the product. This reinforces our commitment to improving health outcomes through trusted pharmaceutical channels,” he said.

Efamol EPO, a supplement rich in Gamma Linolenic Acid, is designed to support hormonal balance and skin health, with clinical studies linking it to improvements in skin conditions and relief from premenstrual discomfort.

Stakeholders at the event noted that the initiative signals a broader shift in Nigeria’s wellness landscape towards preventive care, science-driven solutions and informed health choices among consumers.
