An electrical engineer, Bimbola Dada, speaking as a guest speaker at the just-concluded APWEN Lagos Summit, has noted that adopting green practices builds resilience, enabling communities and businesses to withstand environmental challenges while safeguarding the future.
She stated this at a virtual session themed, ‘Engineering Legacies: Bridging Generations, Building the Future’.
She said, “Integrate eco-friendly materials, renewable energy solutions, and designs that can withstand environmental challenges to ensure long-term project viability. Also, encourage locally driven solutions to help address unique community challenges while boosting homegrown expertise and industry capacity.
“Pairing seasoned engineers with younger professionals on joint projects encourages skill transfer, mutual respect, and shared innovation, which is very crucial. Also, regular dialogues, workshops, and panel discussions allow both generations to exchange ideas freely and learn from each other’s perspectives.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of APWEN Lagos, Atinuke Owolabi, encouraged young engineers to connect, ask questions, seek guidance, and commit to excellence.
She added, “To our elders and seasoned professionals, your legacies are our compass. Let us continue to mentor intentionally, open doors of opportunity, and invest in the future of engineering.
“Our theme is a powerful reminder that our stories, innovations, and sacrifices are the foundation for the next wave of leaders.
We are here to learn from those who paved the way, to mentor those following in our footsteps, and to reaffirm our commitment to excellence in engineering practice and leadership.
“I deeply appreciate our keynote speaker, Christy Adelowo; our guest speaker, Abimbola Dada; our moderator, Seyi Afolabi; and every role model here today. Your presence affirms that we are stronger when we work together, share knowledge, and uphold the values of integrity, innovation, and service.”
