Gov Yusuf To Formally Join APC Monday – DG Media

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to formally rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, January 26, 2026, following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) last Friday.

The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf first joined the APC in 2014, when he contested the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat, a position he later conceded to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The statement explained that after years of political engagement across various platforms, including his recent tenure in the NNPP, considerations of governance, national cohesion, and state development informed the governor’s decision to return to the APC, a familiar and structured platform for progressive governance.

Governor Yusuf was quoted saying that rejoining the APC would “further strengthen cooperation with the Federal Government, accelerate infrastructural development, enhance security coordination, and improve service delivery across Kano State.”

He added that the move would also “consolidate political stability and unity in the state.”

The governor is expected to formally register as a member of the APC on Monday, alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen in the state.

During the event, he is also scheduled to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in Kano.
