Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has dissolved the Gombe State Executive Council in a move seen as a strategic reset of his administration and a signal of early political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision, announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi after the council’s 53rd meeting, also comes with a firm directive compelling political appointees seeking elective positions to resign by April 10, 2026.
The dissolution brings to a close the tenure of commissioners who have served since the governor’s current term began, with instructions for immediate handover to Permanent Secretaries to maintain administrative stability.
At a valedictory session, the outgoing council members conducted a self-assessment of their stewardship, citing progress in infrastructure, healthcare delivery, education and economic reforms.
In a show of solidarity, the council passed a vote of confidence on the governor, praising his leadership and development agenda.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya, according to the SSG, commended the commissioners for their loyalty and sacrifices, expressing optimism that many would continue to contribute to the state’s development in other capacities.
The move is also widely interpreted as part of broader efforts to reposition the administration for its next phase, while reinforcing accountability and political discipline within government ranks.
According to reports, the dual action underscores the administration’s attempt to enforce electoral guidelines while avoiding conflicts of interest among officeholders with political ambitions.
