Glo commended for promoting culture at Ojude Oba – Punch Newspapers

Telecommunications firm Globacom has been recognised for its consistent support of the annual Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, with community leaders praising the company for promoting cultural heritage and grassroots empowerment.

In a statement on Wednesday, Secretary of the Ojude Oba Festival Planning Committee, Opeoluwa Osisanwo, who was one of the 2025 car prize winners, expressed appreciation to the Chairman of Globacom, Mike Adenuga Jr., for the company’s continued sponsorship of the cultural event.

Osisanwo paid a courtesy visit to the company’s Ijebu Ode office to express his gratitude. He was one of two recipients of brand-new cars donated by Globacom as part of a Community Service Award. He said his selection by the elders of Ijebuland, in line with the company’s directive, was a great honour.

“I am grateful to Globacom for this community service award at the 2025 Ojude Oba Festival. My appreciation goes to the management of Globacom and to the Chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga Jr, the Otunba Apesin of Ijebuland,” he said.

“For over 15 years, I have served as Secretary of the Ojude Oba Festival Planning Committee. This recognition is not just for me, but for the entire Ijebu community. May Globacom continue to excel, and may God grant the Chairman good health and strength to enjoy the fruit of his labour,” he added.

Trader, Idowu Olabisi, from Ijebu Igbo, who won the second car, said she was overwhelmed by the unexpected gift. “Globacom gave me a spectacular gift this Eid. I never imagined receiving a car at this time,” she said.

Globacom also presented four brand new tricycles to other winners from different communities in Ijebuland. The beneficiaries included a plank seller, Mrs Adenike Olanrewaju, from Molipa, Ijebu Ode; a businessman, Hassan Toheeb, from Ijebu Itele; a trader, Gazal Temitope, from Onisa, Ijebu Ode; and a carpenter, Lawal Tosin, from Idowa.

The Ojude Oba Festival, held annually two days after Eid-el-Kabir, celebrates the cultural traditions of the Ijebu people and draws participants and tourists from across Nigeria and beyond. Globacom has been the major sponsor of the festival for over a decade.
