FIRS Rebrands as Nigeria Revenue Service, Unveils New Logo

The logo of the Nigeria Revenue Service, which replaces the Federal Inland Revenue Service, has been unveiled.

The new institutional brand identity was launched at an event in Abuja on Wednesday.

The PUNCH reports that the NRS came into operation following the signing of its enabling law, known as the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Act 2025, by President Bola Tinubu in June 2025.

Speaking at the unveiling of the logo, the Executive Chairman of NRS, Zacch Adedeji, explained that the logo and other brand elements for NRS represent an important milestone in the evolution of Nigeria’s revenue administration framework.

A statement issued by his Special Adviser (Media), Dare Adekanmbi, quoted him as saying, “The unveiling of the NRS identity reflects a renewed commitment to a more unified, efficient, and service-orientated revenue system, one that is aligned with Nigeria’s economic transformation agenda and global best practices.”

He added that the new identity “signals continuity of purpose, strengthened institutional capacity, and a forward-looking approach to supporting taxpayers and national development. The Nigeria Revenue Service remains committed to transparency, partnership, and service excellence. The unveiling of this new identity represents not an end, but the beginning of a strengthened relationship between the revenue authority and the Nigerian public, built on trust, clarity, and shared prosperity.”

Meanwhile, The PUNCH reported that Tinubu has insisted that the new tax laws will take effect on 1 January 2026, as planned. This was disclosed in a statement that he personally signed on Tuesday. There had been allegations of alteration to the gazetted tax reforms. A member of the House of Representatives from Sokoto State, Abdulsamad Dasuki, alleged that the versions of the tax laws gazetted and made public contained provisions never debated or approved by lawmakers. This had sparked calls for the implementation of the laws to be shelved.

While acknowledging the concerns about the laws, Tinubu said, “The new tax laws, including those that took effect on 26 June 2025, and the remaining Acts scheduled to commence on 1 January 2026, will continue as planned. These reforms are a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for our country.

“The tax laws are not designed to raise taxes but rather to support a structural reset, drive harmonisation, and protect dignity while strengthening the social contract. I urge all stakeholders to support the implementation phase, which is now firmly in the delivery stage. Our administration is aware of the public discourse surrounding alleged changes to some provisions of the recently enacted tax laws. No substantial issue has been established that warrants a disruption of the reform process. Absolute trust is built over time through making the right decisions, not through premature, reactive measures.”
