Firm to Launch Care Worker Training Programme in Nigeria

Coralworker, a domestic-labour solutions company, is set to launch a nationwide programme aimed at upgrading standards and strengthening professionalism within Nigeria’s domestic and care-work sector.

The initiative, which begins on 12 December 2025, at the National Women Centre, Abuja, is being delivered in partnership with Keystone Bank, Transcorp Hilton Abuja, NAPTIP, the Nigerian Police Force and several other federal institutions.

In a statement to The PUNCH, the Founder/CEO of Coralworker.com, Chinenye Ogbonnaya, said the programme is designed to equip domestic, childcare, home-care and hospitality workers with essential skills in ethics, soft-skill development, first aid, mental-health awareness and human-rights protection.

She said the effort is part of a broader plan to professionalise a labour segment that supports millions of households and contributes heavily to Nigeria’s informal economy. “The initiative will run across multiple states and is expected to improve service quality while boosting the overall welfare and job prospects of domestic workers,” she added.

Officials from participating agencies said the collaboration reflects a growing recognition of the domestic-labour workforce as a significant economic contributor that requires structured capacity-building and stronger safeguards.

With challenges such as human trafficking, exploitation and inadequate training still affecting the sector, they emphasised the need for coordinated interventions to enhance job security, productivity and labour mobility.

Coralworker, which connects homes and businesses with verified domestic and care personnel, noted that the programme will help workers transition into more formal and better-paying employment structures, ultimately supporting long-term economic stability.

Attendance is open to all domestic, childcare, home-care and hospitality workers.

Sessions will feature contributions from NACA, the National Human Rights Commission, the Ministry of Women Affairs, Abuja Continental Hotel, Wells Carlton Hotel, Empery Global Stores and the Habeeb Okunola Foundation.

The initiative is regarded as one of the most comprehensive efforts yet to strengthen and formalise Nigeria’s domestic-labour ecosystem.
