A firm, African Climate Stories, has said its ‘Flip the Switch Campaign’ roadshow is driving solar energy adoption in Lagos communities.
The organisation disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, following a roadshow held at Abule-Egba and Iyana-Ipaja markets in Lagos.
It said the event brought together residents, small business owners, and energy stakeholders, while transforming the busy locations into hubs for solar demonstrations and consultations.
According to the statement, the roadshow, which ran from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., attracted traders, artisans, transport workers, and households, many of whom rely on petrol and diesel generators.
It noted that participants were introduced to practical and affordable solar alternatives, with vendors and technical experts providing guidance on installation, maintenance, and flexible payment options.
The firm said community champions also shared personal stories of transitioning from generators to solar power, highlighting reduced fuel costs, quieter environments, and improved quality of life.
“I spend thousands weekly on fuel. If this solar option truly works as they’ve shown us today, it changes everything,” said Zubby, a local shop owner who participated in an on-the-spot consultation.
The statement added that some households and small businesses initiated the process of adopting solar systems during the event.
It explained that the campaign adopts a storytelling approach and forms part of a broader initiative, including a forthcoming docu-reality television series documenting Lagos residents as they transition to clean energy.
“Our goal is not just awareness, but action. When people see others like them making the switch successfully, it becomes real and achievable,” said the co-founder of African Climate Stories and project lead for the campaign, Nina Mbah.
The firm further stated that the roadshow highlighted the economic burden of generator dependence, noting that rising fuel and maintenance costs continue to weigh on households and businesses.
It added that solar solutions, particularly with flexible financing, could significantly reduce long-term energy expenses while also lowering carbon emissions and improving air quality.
According to the statement, the campaign is supported by ZE-Gen and the IKEA Foundation and includes tools such as a “Flip Scoreboard” to track renewable energy adoption across communities.
It noted that the initiative is currently in its design phase and aims to inspire and track 10 million Nigerians to transition to clean energy by 2030.
The organisation added that more roadshows and community engagements are planned across Lagos and other parts of the country in the coming months.
