Experts to address SDGs challenges, opportunities

Experts will gather at an upcoming climate conference to examine the challenges and opportunities for driving progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through meaningful partnerships.

They will speak at the 8th Annual Sustainability Table Series, themed: “Navigating Challengs, Leveraging Opportunities in a Reforming Economy to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals’, organised by Avant-garde Sustainability Foundation, scheduled to hold on November 28, 2024, in Lagos.

A statement disclosed that this year’s STS will address several policy-related issues crucial to sustainable development, including advocating for fiscal policies that encourage businesses to adopt circular economy principles.

“It will be promoting policies to strengthen the cultural and creative industries as economic growth drivers, advocating for sustainable infrastructure projects, such as renewable energy, energy-efficient buildings, and waste management systems,” the statement said.

It further explained that it would be addressing gaps in social safety nets to ensure equitable access to resources and promoting inclusive policy-making that involves a range of stakeholders, including community organizations and businesses.

It noted that this year’s theme underscored the urgent need for collaborative solutions to address Africa’s unique sustainability challenges, while creating pathways for sustainable economic growth, decarbonisation, and climate resilience.

This year’s convener, Temilade Denton, said, “As we face the intersecting challenges of economic growth, social responsibility, and environmental preservation, we need both a bold approach and a set of decisive action to chart a sustainable future”.

It noted that expected dignitaries at this year’s event include the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Consul General of Switzerland in Lagos, Frank Eggmann; Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih; Chief Executive Officer of IHS (Nigeria) Limited,  Mr Mohamad Darwish; and the First Lady of Kwara State and Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, Dr Olufolake Abdulrazaq; amongst others.
