A children’s rights expert has called for the effective implementation and enforcement of Nigeria’s child rights law.
Oyedeji Olufemi, chief executive officer of Save the Future of Children Initiative, made the call on Sunday in Ilorin, in commemoration of the 2026 International Day for Street Children.
The theme of the day is entitled: “Access to Justice: Protect, Not Punish” . The International Day for Street Children is observed annually on April 12 to advocate for the rights, protection, and opportunities of millions of street-connected children worldwide.
Launched by the Consortium for Street Children (CSC) in 2011, it highlights their resilience and raises awareness about issues like lack of healthcare, education, and legal protection.
Quoting a report by streetchildren.org, Olufemi observed that there are an estimated 100 million children connected to the streets globally
