A former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Prince Miaphen, has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Qua’an-Pan, Shendam and Mikang Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Miaphen, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made his declaration on Wednesday in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, where he pledged to provide people-oriented representation if given the party’s ticket.
He said his ambition was driven by a desire to serve and to deepen democratic gains at both the state and federal levels, adding that he would build on the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
According to him, extensive consultations with stakeholders across the constituency informed his decision to join the race.
“I am here to formally declare my intention to aspire to the House of Representatives to represent the good people of Qua’an-Pan, Shendam and Mikang Federal Constituency,” he said.
“My aspiration is inspired by service to humanity. I have had the privilege of learning governance through engagements with leaders across different platforms, particularly within the youth constituency.”
Miaphen stressed the need to redefine representation by prioritising youth empowerment and women-focused entrepreneurial development.
“I am eager to change the narrative of representation through impactful legislation and programmes that will empower our youths and women economically,” he added.
In his remarks, the current NANS President, Comrade Olushola Lajoda, expressed support for Miaphen’s ambition, describing him as a tested leader with a track record of effective student advocacy.
Lajoda urged APC stakeholders to consider Miaphen for the party’s ticket, noting that he possesses the capacity to deliver quality representation at the National Assembly.
“Youths are no longer leaders of tomorrow but leaders of today. Miaphen has demonstrated this through his leadership journey,” he said.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Shendam Local Government Council, Nicholas Kemi Nshe, represented by his deputy, Goeboro Paul, described the aspiration as a step in the right direction.
He expressed confidence that Miaphen’s understanding of grassroots challenges would translate into effective representation if elected.
Similarly, the APC Chairman in Shendam, Nuhu Rangmen, said the declaration reflected Miaphen’s growing acceptance among party members and constituents, citing his past leadership credentials as a strong advantage in the contest.
