Eto pursues integration with single window platform for port

The management of Truck Transit Parks, operators of the Electronic Call-Up System code-named ‘Eto’, has said it has started engaging relevant agencies to integrate the platform into the National Single Window, which the Federal Government plans to launch next year.

The co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of TTP, Mr. Jama Onwubuariri, gave this hint recently during a roundtable meeting with members of the Shipping Correspondent Association of Nigeria in Apapa, Lagos.

He also disclosed that there are plans to extend Eto to other states of the federation.

“The company is also liaising with relevant agencies to integrate Eto into the Single Window platform, which the Federal Government plans to float next year. On the infrastructure side, we are currently expanding to other states in Nigeria, such as Cross River, Abia, Kaduna, Bauchi and Yobe states. These are states we are currently in talks with.

We will deploy Eto both as a traffic management and as an infrastructure management solution to them. So, by next year, more development will unfold,” he stated.

Speaking on its licence, Onwubuariri said he is optimistic it will be renewed, considering the significant impact the platform has made over the years, adding that more technologies are coming into play in the next phase of operations.

“Everything that needs to be done on our part for the licence renewal has been done, because we have what they call the performance indicators. We have presented our request for a new licence to be submitted. The feedback we get is that it’s under review, so it’s not in our hands. Our job is to make sure that those things in our contract are done, and we have done that. And then the requests that our contract requires us to do are also done. So the next step is with the Nigerian Ports Authority,” he said.

Recounting the gains of the platform over the years, he said, “In 2019, there was a report by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce which says that Nigeria is losing $1.7bn annually due to port congestion. The money is being lost to the time factor and delays in the export and import of goods and services.”

He also announced that the company has concluded plans to introduce a series of new technologies to further facilitate cargo movement from the seaports in 2026.

“In the plans for next year, we are stepping up the system to ensure that new technologies are deployed to reduce human interference. Currently, we are investing in an Electronic Tagging System. We have also designed what is called an e-column Interchange Transaction Log and the YAD traffic management solution, among others, to eliminate delays,” Onwubuariri explained.

He said these new technologies aim to ensure seamless movement of trucks, guaranteeing cargo for the truckers and enhancing security.

According to him, the company has deployed technologies to help shippers, transporters, port operators, terminal operators and the FMCG companies to improve the quality of their movement and management of their facilities and ensure that goods, vehicles and people move quickly and efficiently.

He said the company has also facilitated the movement of over 900,000 trucks into the Nigerian ports this year.

Earlier, the President of SCAN, Mr. Moses Ebosele, while welcoming the TTP delegation to the SCAN Press Centre, said the facility remains open and accessible to all stakeholders.

The Electronic Call-Up System, also known as ‘Eto’, was launched to address severe truck congestion around major Nigerian seaports, especially at Lagos Ports. By scheduling truck movement digitally, NPA aims to control entry into port complexes, reduce unauthorised access and improve the efficiency of cargo evacuation. It’s part of a broader modernisation and automation agenda by the NPA.
