The Nigeria Customs Service, Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Command, says it collected N50.8bn as revenue in 2024.

In a statement on Friday, the command said the figure represents over a 50 per cent revenue increase compared to the N27.9bn it collected in the same period in 2023.

According to the Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Comfort Ukpanah, the outstanding figure was achieved through deliberate and concerted efforts that align with the policy guidelines of the Comptroller General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi.

“The command collected N50.8bn as revenue in 2024. The figure represents over 50 per cent increase when compared to N27.9bn collected at the same time in 2023,” she said.

Ukpanah added that the command worked assiduously to create an all-inclusive methodology in their mode of operation with stakeholders.

She maintained that the command leveraged engagement to galvanize and earn the trust of “our esteemed stakeholders in adhering very strictly to the extant guidelines in terms of trade.”

Ukpanah emphasised that the command developed a template for monitoring compliance by the stakeholders and also the commitment levels of officers to ensure that all verified operational gaps are blocked.

She pointed out that the command, through intelligence sharing and collaboration was able to identify excise factories that were not brought under control.

“The command ensured round-the-clock surveillance on activities of such factories in addition to the existing ones to ensure that appropriate excise duties were collected,” she said.

She mentioned that the command clearly understands the risk of not paying attention to parcel posts.

Ukpanah stressed that the resilience and deep commitment of the officers helped to ensure that identified areas of revenue leakages were blocked.

She said that the command will take steps to re-position itself and create fresh operational strategies to ensure that they meet and even surpass the revenue target for the year.

Ukpanah said it is instructive to note that during the year under review, several activities aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the service and other agencies, including traditional institutions were given priority attention.
