On Tuesday, eight members of the House of Representatives from Kano State officially announced their defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their decision to join the ruling party was communicated in a letter read during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

Letters conveying the lawmakers’ decision were read separately on the floor of the chamber.
In the correspondence, the legislators attributed their move to the ongoing internal crisis within the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
The announcement attracted the presence of several prominent political figures at the session, including Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State; the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; and a former governor of the state, Abdullahi Ganduje, among others.
