The immediate past Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Olukayode Egbetokun, has paid tribute to President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a key figure in his life and career. Egbetokun made the remarks during his retirement thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Redemption Pavilion, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Egbetokun was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to replace Usman Alkali Baba as IGP but later rresigned on February 24. Egbetokun, Nigeria’s 22nd IGP, described Tinubu as a mentor, saying that he played a pivotal role in shaping his personal life and professional journey.
He said: “Today, I consciously and sincerely honour my mentor, Tinubu, as one of those vessels through whom God has brought me this far. “My first meeting with him in 1998 was a pivotal moment of my life.
“Within 24 hours of that meeting, something remarkable happened, leading to a complete turnaround in my life.” Egbetokun reflected on his life and career, attributing his achievements to divine grace. He said his years in service, though marked by challenges, were sustained by faith and resilience.
