EEDC Offers 25% Discount for Customers’ Old Debts

Enugu Electricity Distribution Plc has announced the launch of a new debt recovery scheme, offering discounts to customers with outstanding electricity bills, according to a notice posted on its official social media handles.

In the post shared on Tuesday, the power distribution company said the initiative, known as the Accelerated Settlement of Arrears Project, is aimed at encouraging eligible customers to clear long-standing debts.

“The Accelerated Settlement of Arrears Project is here, an opportunity for eligible customers to settle outstanding arrears with approved discounts,” EEDC stated in the post, saying, however, that terms and conditions apply.

Details contained in the accompanying flyer explained that the programme is “a refreshed and graded discount programme designed and targeted at customers that have outstanding arrears.”

EEDC noted that only customers whose debts fall within a specified period would qualify for the scheme.

“To qualify, your arrears should be within the period before 31st December, 2022,” the company said.

Under the programme, customers who opt to pay their debts at once will receive a higher discount.

The notice stated that there would be a “25 per cent discount for one-time payment”, while those who choose to spread payments would enjoy a lower concession of a “20 per cent discount for three months’ instalment payment”.

The company also urged customers seeking clarification to reach out through its official contact channels, especially as there are terms and conditions to enjoy the debt relief.

The announcement comes as electricity distribution companies continue efforts to improve revenue collection and reduce accumulated unpaid bills across their networks.
