De Zerbi In Talks To Become Tottenham Manager

Tottenham Hotspur are in discussions with Roberto De Zerbi to appoint him as their new permanent head coach, barring a last-minute change.

New Telegraph had earlier reported that Igor Tudor departed from the club by mutual agreement on Sunday after only 44 days in charge, with chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and Sporting Director Johan Lange given the responsibility of selecting his successor.
Tottenham has chosen to part ways with interim manager Tudor after last Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, a result that left them only one point above the relegation zone, but opted to allow the Croat some time to grieve the passing of his father over the weekend.
De Zerbi, now available after leaving Marseille earlier this season, is the main target, and Spurs attempted to find out if the Italian was interested in the job before the official announcement of Tudor’s departure.

Various sources informed New Telegraph that early signs suggested De Zerbi was receptive to taking on the role of the club’s next permanent head coach, but he would rather wait until the season concludes to determine if the club remains in the Premier League.

However, it is acknowledged that negotiations are happening in an effort to determine whether an agreement can be made for the last seven matches of the Premier League season.

Spurs are believed to be looking to provide the ex-Brighton manager with a long-term deal at the club.

Several Tottenham fan groups have expressed their disapproval of potentially hiring De Zerbi due to his backing of former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood, 24, departed Manchester United to link up with De Zerbi at Marseille in 2023 after charges involving attempted rape and assault were dismissed.

While in the south of France, De Zerbi referred to Greenwood as a “good guy” who had incurred a “heavy cost” for his previous actions.

Proud Lilywhites, the official LGBTQ+ supporters’ group of Spurs, stated: “When an individual in that role openly supports a player like Mason Greenwood and presents it in a manner that diminishes the gravity of the events, it is significant, not only on its own but in what it conveys.”
