Dangote Cement CSR lauded by Obajana host communities

The Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, Azad Nawabuddin, has been commended by host communities for his outstanding commitment to community development and corporate responsibility.

A statement from the firm on Wednesday stated that community leaders and stakeholders praised Nawabuddin’s leadership for the timely implementation of the Community Development Agreement and the consistent rollout of impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

According to them, these programmes have strengthened community relations, enhanced social infrastructure, and promoted sustainable cooperation between the company and its host communities.

The Bajana of Obajana, Idowu Isenibi, extended appreciation to the Plant Director, the company’s Vice President, Devakumar V. G. Edwin, and Group President Aliko Dangote for their unwavering support through various developmental programmes. He highlighted that the company’s CSR initiatives are managed through a structured Social Performance Department, designed to meet community needs and foster sustainable growth.

Also speaking, Abraham Paul, Youth Leader of the Oyo Community, praised Nawabuddin for his “uncommon and commendable support,” particularly in assisting with the rehabilitation of vandalized 33kVA electricity lines supplying the community. He acknowledged existing operational challenges but expressed confidence that continued collaboration and dialogue would effectively address issues for the benefit of both the Plant and its host communities.

The Baalo of the Oyo Community, Solomon Obahawu, represented by his aide, Mr. David Afolabi, Financial Secretary of the Oyo Community and Acting Director of the Parents–Teachers Association for local schools, also lauded Dangote Cement’s contributions to social well-being and development.

Afolabi highlighted the company’s support for human capital through yearly scholarships, women’s enterprise promotion, farmers’ assistance, and the provision of social infrastructure, including street lighting and school building projects.

The monarch expressed gratitude for several impactful projects completed in 2025, which include the employment of 20 local security personnel, the installation of 50 solar-powered streetlights, the construction of drainage systems, and the conversion of three motorized boreholes into solar-powered water supply systems to address persistent power challenges.

Nawabuddin stated that the company had also implemented numerous social initiatives, such as Farmers Assistance Grants for Oyo and Iwaa, vocational skills training, Market Women Assistance Grants, cooperative funding across all four communities, and the provision of security houses to support community policing.

Prince Ademola Adeyemi, General Manager of Social Performance, noted that plans are underway to officially commission and hand over completed projects in the four catchment communities of Oyo, Iwaa, Obajana, and Apata, given improvements in the security situation.

He also announced that Dangote Cement had commenced implementation of the CDA signed with the Jakura community, beginning with an electrification project for the area.

Through these sustained efforts, Dangote Cement Plc, under Nawabuddin’s leadership, continues to set a benchmark for corporate citizenship, leveraging CSR programmes to enhance the livelihoods, infrastructure, and overall well-being of its host communities.
