The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has inaugurated the newly renovated Customs administrative building at Tincan Island Port in Lagos Lagos.
The building, which is over 40 years old, was renovated under the supervision of the Customs Area Controller, Dera Nnadi.
Speaking during the inauguration on Tuesday at Tincan, Adeniyi commended the renovation project.
While commending the Customs Area Controller, Dera Nnadi, Adeniyi said the project will help enhance optimal service to the Federal Government.
“We dedicate this to the glory of God, and for the provision of better and more optimal service to the federal government of Nigeria,”
He described the project as award-winning.
“The award for the Nigeria Customs Service in 2024, which was supposed to take place two weeks ago, will now take place in two days. As the Comptroller-General of Customs, I can assure you that we will not forget this project,” he said.
Adeniyi, however, disclosed that the government is working on a single window to bring all stakeholders into an automated platform that will allow regulatory oversight and improve operational efficiency.
Meanwhile, he underscored the need for more collaborations between customs and other agencies of government as well as freight forwarders, terminal operators, and shipping companies, among others.
Meanwhile, Comptroller Dera thanked the CGC for his unwavering support towards the actualisation of the project.
“As we celebrate the unveiling of this renovated facility, we must recognize the historical context of this transformation. Since the inception of this command in 1977, no major renovation has been undertaken to update and modernize the office complex,” Nnadi said.
Nnadi explained that for decades, our officers have worked diligently within the confines of outdated infrastructure, and today, “we witness a transformation that will no longer be just a reflection of the past, but a symbol of the future a future that is modern, efficient, and committed to service excellence.”
According to him, the renovation goes beyond mere aesthetics of upgrading physical infrastructure adding that it is a clear statement of intent that reinforces the CGC’s policy focus on collaboration, consolidation, and innovation.
It is a reaffirmation of the command’s commitment to improving working conditions, enhancing operational efficiency, and providing a conducive environment for our officers and stakeholders alike.
Nnadi opined that a well-maintained office complex ensures that we continue to provide exceptional service and achieve greater results in our core functions of revenue generation and trade facilitation.
