The Nigeria Customs Service, Ports & Terminal Multiservices Limited Command has stated that the Unified Customs Management System, also known as B’Odogwu, facilitated a total of N230bn as revenue at the command since its commencement in October 2024.
In a statement on Sunday, the Area Controller of the Command, Tenny Daniyan, disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria to the command.
He described B’Odogwu as a Nigerian digital technology that has come to change the narrative in customs operations.
“B’Odogwu is working, and it’s working for us. We have realised over N230bn so far on the platform. If it’s not working with you, it means you are not doing the right thing,” he said.
Daniyan acknowledged that the new technology was not without challenges but noted that over 90 per cent of the challenges had been resolved.
According to him, PTML being the pilot command of the platform, over 90 per cent of the challenges envisaged in other areas are resolved here.
He said that B’odogwu is a more robust and more secure platform with some AI features that can help do a proper classification of things. And has some features that are not in NICIS.
Daniyan commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for having the confidence to go ahead with the initiative, which he said has today become the pride of Nigeria and Nigerians.
He said that the platform would save the Federal Government billions of naira that would have been the capital flight of NICIS.
“This means that the NCS is not only helping Nigeria to raise money, but also saving money,” he said. He enjoined agents and importers to be compliant and make honest declarations to be able to enjoy seamless cargo clearance.
“If you are a compliant trader, you don’t have issues; we give you one hour, not even two hours, to get your consignment. That is what we are working towards. But we can only achieve one-hour cargo clearance depending on who is making the declaration,” he said.
Earlier, the President of SCAN, Moses Ebosele, commended the CAC for his open-door policy, even as he thanked him for the cordial relationship between PTML Customs Command and journalists.
Ebosele also appreciated Daniyan’s giant stride, especially in the area of revenue generation and capacity building for stakeholders.
