Coalition Raises Alarm Over Coordinated Media Attacks On Police Leadership

Calls for national support for security agencies

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Against Terrorism in Nigeria has raised serious concern over what it described as a coordinated and sustained campaign of calumny aimed at discrediting the Nigeria Police Force and its current leadership, warning that such attacks could weaken public confidence in security institutions at a critical time for national security.

The Coalition in a statement issued by its Secretary, Comrade Oluwatobi Johnson and Publicity Secretary, Ochiaga Jude, alleged that recent social media-driven narratives targeting certain strategic commands and units of the police appear designed to blackmail officers and obstruct legitimate law enforcement activities.

According to the group, these campaigns are increasingly directed at operational commands actively involved in tackling violent crime, cybercrime, and other threats to public safety, with the intention of demoralizing officers engaged in enforcing law and order across the country.

The coalition expressed particular concern over online attacks linked to the Delta State Police Command, Deputy Commissioner of Police Muyiwa Adejobi and officers involved in operational duties there, while also referencing recent criticism directed at the Lagos State Task Force under the leadership of Chief Superintendent of Police Akerele.

It maintained that while constructive criticism of public institutions remains legitimate in a democracy, orchestrated attempts to undermine security personnel through sustained hostile narratives could embolden criminal elements and discourage officers working under difficult conditions.

The coalition warned Nigerians against allowing misinformation, politically coloured commentary, or coordinated digital attacks to erode confidence in frontline security agencies at a period when the nation continues to confront terrorism, kidnapping, cybercrime, and organized criminal activity.

Reaffirming its support for security personnel across the federation, the coalition urged citizens, community leaders, and responsible media actors to stand firmly behind law enforcement institutions, especially officers operating in high-pressure environments such as Delta State, where security operations remain critical to public safety.

It added that security agencies deserve encouragement, oversight through lawful channels, and institutional backing rather than campaigns capable of weakening morale.

The coalition restated confidence in ongoing efforts by police formations to confront insecurity and maintain public order, calling for stronger collaboration between citizens and security agencies in the national interest.
