CITN urges inductees to uphold tax ethics

The 16th President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Mr Samuel Agbeluyi, has highlighted the role of the new inductees in upholding the values and ethics of the tax profession.

Agbeluyi gave the charge at the 51st Induction Ceremony of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, held recently in Lagos.

In his opening address, Agbeluyi underscored the expectations placed on them by the Institute.

“You are required to project the Institute positively through ethical conduct and by striving for excellence at all times in your service to employers, clients, and stakeholders,” Agbeluyi said.

He emphasised the need for continuous professional development, urging inductees to take part in the Institute’s various learning initiatives to stay ahead of changes in the tax system.

He further stressed that the core values of CITN—Service, Teamwork, Excellence, and Professionalism, should guide the inductees in their careers.

Agbeluyi also reminded members of the Institute’s regulatory measures, including the establishment of an Investigating Panel and a Disciplinary Tribunal to uphold professional standards.

He emphasised the importance of staying informed and engaged with the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s tax landscape, particularly considering the recent approval of the Economic Stabilisation Bills by the Federal Executive Council.

The CITN’s President reassured the inductees that the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria would continue to provide technical support and advice to the government during these critical reforms, as taxation continues to take a central role in the country’s fiscal policy.”

He further expressed joy and gratitude to the inductees, who would soon join the growing list of Associate Members of CITN.

He also recognised the presence of distinguished Council members, past Presidents, and special guests, including the Executive Chairman of Katsina State Internal Revenue, Alhaji Mohammed Isyaku, and the keynote speaker, the Managing Consultant of Kreston Pedabo, Mr Albert Folorunsho.

With the recent marking of its golden jubilee, Agbeluyi highlighted that the Institute continues to be a guiding force in the profession, now celebrating its 51st induction ceremony.

Agbeluyi called on the inductees to remain committed to ethical practices and to use their new qualifications to enhance the tax profession in Nigeria.

“As you progress, do not fall into complacency; always strive for excellence,” he urged.
