The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has elected Mr Innocent Ohagwa as its President-elect, following a unanimous decision by the Governing Council at an extraordinary meeting held on May 1, 2025.

According to a statement on Friday by CITN’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, Ohagwa will officially succeed the current President, Mr Samuel Agbeluyi, on June 4, 2025, becoming the 17th President of the Institute. His investiture ceremony is scheduled for June 14, 2025.

“Currently serving as Vice President and Chairman of the Finance and General-Purpose Committee, Ohagwa brings over 35 years of experience in tax administration, having retired as Coordinating Director, Support Services Group, at the Federal Inland Revenue Service,” it said.

Ohagwa is a Fellow of both CITN and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He is also a Certified Information Systems Auditor and holds degrees from the University of Lagos and Bayero University, Kano.

He has also undertaken executive training at Harvard University’s Kennedy School.

Since becoming an Associate Member of CITN in 1990 and a Fellow in 1999, Ohagwa has served in various capacities, including Honorary Treasurer, Chairman of several committees, and Deputy Vice President.

He was elected to the CITN Governing Council in 2013.

On the regional front, Ohagwa was re-elected in February 2025 as Honorary Treasurer of the West African Union of Tax Institutes, having served an earlier term from 2023 to 2025.

“Ohagwa’s leadership is expected to continue the Institute’s trajectory of reform, innovation, and capacity development in Nigeria’s tax sector,” it added.
