CITN introduces reforms in taxation education

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has announced a significant reform in taxation education through its examination system.

According to a statement, the new examination system is set to take effect from April 2025.

“This groundbreaking development includes the introduction of a revised syllabus and the adoption of computer-based examinations for all candidates, marking a significant shift towards global best practices in taxation education,” it noted.

The revised syllabus is tailored to align with international taxation standards, ensuring that candidates acquire the technical and analytical skills necessary for the evolving tax profession.

“CITN aims to produce competent tax professionals who can meet the increasing complexities of tax administration and policy both within Nigeria and globally,” it added.

Speaking on the initiative, CITN’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Afolake Oso, emphasised the Institute’s commitment to raising the bar in taxation education.

“This upgrade is a strategic move to modernise our examination process, ensuring that candidates are better equipped for the real-world demands of the industry,” Oso stated.

The introduction of CBE comes with several advantages designed to improve efficiency, accessibility, and security in the examination process.

The institute highlighted key benefits of the digital examination format, including increased efficiency through faster marking and result processing, improved accessibility with designated centres nationwide, and alignment with global best practices for a more structured assessment.

“The system also enhances integrity by incorporating anti-malpractice measures, ensuring the credibility of CITN’s certification,” it added.

To ensure a smooth transition, CITN has introduced orientation programmes and recommended study materials for candidates.

The Institute encourages students to take advantage of these resources to optimise their performance in the new examination format.

CITN emphasised that it remains dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in taxation education and professional certification. By adopting CBE and updating its syllabus, the Institute is reinforcing its role as a leader in taxation training and certification in Nigeria.

“Aspiring tax professionals are encouraged to embrace this transformation and stay engaged with CITN as it continues to drive innovation in taxation education,” Oso added.
