The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers has forged strategic partnerships with several tertiary institutions in Nigeria to promote the securities and investment profession among the youth. This collaboration aims to attract a new generation of professionals into the capital market, fostering growth and expertise in the industry.
CIS President and Chairman of Council, Oluropo Dada, made the announcement during the Institute’s 30th Annual General Meeting held in Lagos. Dada revealed that the ongoing collaboration with various universities and higher institutions in Nigeria will pave the way for Degree and Post Graduate Linkage Programmes in Securities and Investment Studies. These programmes, he explained, are designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience in the securities market.
“Our ‘Catch Them Young’ campaign is already gaining momentum. Through these collaborations, we aim to provide pathways for students, both in finance and non-finance disciplines, to pursue careers in the securities profession,” Dada said.
“The review of the Institute’s Professional Diploma Programme in Securities and Investment will also ensure that many more youths, with or without a finance background, are able to enter the securities market and build a rewarding career.”
In addition to strengthening its ties with universities, the CIS has also intensified its efforts to create awareness of the securities and investment profession among students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. As part of these efforts, the Institute has been working on a document to sustain the standard of its professional diploma examinations, which continue to attract youths and non-finance professionals across the country.
“Through our collaboration with tertiary institutions, we are not only advancing the education of students in this field but also providing them with the necessary tools and certifications to excel in the capital market,” Dada explained.
The Institute has also furthered its reach through the CIS Academy, which continues to gain recognition in the capital market space. The Academy offers specialized training and certification courses tailored to capital market operators, industry experts, and business executives. This initiative aims to meet the needs of professionals seeking to upgrade their knowledge and skills in securities and investment.
Moreover, the CIS has strengthened its global partnerships, notably with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment in the United Kingdom, to ensure that its training programmes remain internationally relevant and robust.
Looking ahead, Dada revealed that the Institute has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Maiduguri Business School and renewed its partnership with the Lagos Commodities and Futures Exchange. Additionally, it is in advanced discussions with other institutions such as Miva Open University and Olabisi Onabanjo University to further expand its reach.
He also condemned unregistered investment schemes in Nigeria’s capital market, labeling them as Ponzi schemes designed to defraud unsuspecting investors.
The PUNCH reported that the President and Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, Oluropo Dada, alongside the Institute’s first Vice President, Fiona Ahimie, has reiterated the crucial role of stockbrokers in driving Nigeria’s economic growth and financial stability.
