Carter Efe Becomes Africa’s Most-followed Twitch Streamer After Davido Livestream

Nigerian skit maker and musician Oderhohwo Efe, better known as Carter Efe, has risen to the top of Africa’s Twitch streaming scene, emerging as the continent’s most-followed creator on the platform.

He overtook fellow Nigerian streamer Adesokan Emmanuel, popularly called Shank Comics, who previously held the record.

Efe’s rapid rise followed a widely publicised livestream on Wednesday featuring Afrobeats megastar Davido, an appearance that triggered a sharp surge in his online following.

By Thursday, data on Twitch showed that Carter Efe’s account had crossed the 406,000 followers mark.

Just a day earlier, he had approximately 322,000 followers, indicating a gain of roughly 160,000 followers within three days, primarily driven by the buzz surrounding the collaborative stream with Davido.

The session also set new records on the platform.

Davido, also known as ‘OBO’, was said to have powered the stream to become the most-watched Twitch livestream ever in Africa, attracting around 83,000 viewers.

In addition, Efe became the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on Twitch.

During the livestream, Davido connected Carter Efe with several prominent figures, including his wife, the popular nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, and even gave a light-hearted shout-out to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.

The stream also featured a surprise call to Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen, whose appearance excited viewers and added a rare mix of music and football to the broadcast.
