Bauchi State is aiming for a stronger performance at the third National Para Games as it prepares to field over 110 athletes in Abuja.
The competition, billed for March 26 to April 3 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, will feature athletes competing in 10 events, including Para Athletics, Powerlifting, and Sitting Volleyball.
At a farewell ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Babayo Adamu Gabarin, encouraged the athletes to surpass their previous record of 13 medals.
Represented by Abdullahi Ibrahim, the commissioner assured the team of full support, including payment of allowances and improved welfare.
He further disclosed that outstanding athletes, particularly gold medal winners, would be considered for employment opportunities, a move aimed at motivating peak performance.
Sports stakeholders view the games as a critical platform for talent discovery and preparation for international competitions.
