In a decisive policy move, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved the suspension of commercial activities in selected cattle markets across four local government areas of the state.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Comrade Mukhtar Gidado, said the directive affects markets in Alkaleri, Bauchi, Kirfi and Tafawa Balewa LGAs, identified by the government as hotspots for illegal activities.
According to the statement the affected markets have been linked to organised crimes, including arms exchange, extortion, and illicit financial dealings.
The administration said the action forms part of broader efforts to restore order, strengthen security architecture, and curb criminal networks operating under the guise of livestock trade.
The security agencies have been mandated to enforce the order, while emirs, district heads and village heads are expected to support implementation through community engagement.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to reviewing the decision once measurable progress is recorded in addressing the security challenges.
