The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed a late-night bandits attack on Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area, where nine residents were abducted and two others injured.
The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, as heavily armed assailants stormed the village through a route linked to the Sabon Birni forest. Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Rufai, said the Command has mobilised operatives to the area and is working to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims.
“The Command is aware of the incident and has swung into action. Tactical teams have been deployed, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact number of abducted persons,” Rufai stated.
Residents reported that the attackers struck while they were asleep, forcing many to flee amid gunfire. The abducted individuals are mostly women and elderly men. Rufai urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, saying, “The safety of lives and property remains our top priority”.
