The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally recognised Sunday Ude-Okoye as its National Secretary.
This has brought to an end months of crisis that dogged the party over the legally recognised occupant of the office between Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu.
PDP governors and the Board of Trustees (BoT) had called for the swearing in of Ude-Okoye as National Secretary in line with the December 24, 2024 Court of Appeal judgement that upheld Anyanwu’s sack by Enugu High Court.
The acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, had sought the legal opinion of the National Legal Adviser, Kamaladeen Ajibade, on the matter.
PDP National Working Committee (NWC), which met yesterday, said Damagum presented a memo before it on the contentious National Secretaryship position.
The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement at the end of the meeting, said the NWC in considering the memo “thoroughly examined the attached documents namely; the declaratory judgement of the High Court of Enugu, the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division which pronounced and declared Rt. Hon. S.K.E Ude-Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP; the legal opinion and advice by Dr. Kabiru T. Turaki (SAN) as well as that of the National Legal Adviser of the PDP.”
The statement added that after due consideration of the memo and the attachments, “the NWC overwhelmingly recognises, acknowledges and confirms Rt. Hon. S.K.E UdeOkoye as the substantive National Secretary of the PDP in full compliance with and obedience to the judgement of the Court of Appeal, recognising that there is no subsisting or superseding judgment or order from any court of superior authority or hierarchy.”
The party disclosed that it has commenced the transmission of its resolution and decision affirming Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant bodies for recognition in line with the judgment of the Court of Appeal.
