Nigeria’s Arabinrin Aderonke Atoyebi has been recognised as the International Sport and Culture Association Role Model of the Year in Copenhagen, Denmark, according to a statement released on Tuesday. The award celebrates her work in using sports to promote empowerment and social inclusion.
The biennial ISCA Awards honour individuals and organisations that leverage sports and physical activity to drive social change and community development worldwide. This year’s edition drew nominations from numerous countries, highlighting figures who have turned sport into a tool for transformation.
Atoyebi’s advocacy for gender equality, youth development, and social inclusion has established her as a leading figure in Nigeria’s sports-for-development sector. Her initiatives demonstrate how sports can unite communities, offering hope, education, and opportunities, particularly for young women.
She received a $3,200 cash prize and the international visibility associated with the prestigious award.
Atoyebi dedicated the recognition to her team and supporters. “This award means a lot to me. It’s a testament to the hard work my team and I have put in over the years. Being recognised on such an international stage proves that no effort towards positive change ever goes unnoticed. It motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and reaching more girls who need hope and opportunity,” she said.
Her recognition highlights Nigeria’s growing influence in the world of sports and social impact and serves as an inspiration to young African women seeking to drive positive change in their communities.
