The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders yesterday met behind closed doors with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed amid growing speculation over his possible defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The meeting came barely 24 hours after a delegation of the ADC led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal. visited him in Bauchi. The meeting at the Government House was attended by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.
The meeting, which lasted about two hours, ended without any official statement, as the visitors declined to speak with journalists. Mohammed on Tuesday said he would announce his new political direction on Thursday, signaling a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said all efforts to reconcile differences in the PDP had failed, leaving him with limited options but to consider joining another party. The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said: “I have pursued all avenues for reconciliation, but they have not worked.
