Angry mob beats suspected armed robber to death in Benue


A suspected armed robber was beaten to death by an angry mob while robbing the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Makurdi, Benue State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday behind Modern market in Makurdi town.

The suspected armed robber allegedly broke into the church building and stole some items.



He was said to be on the prowl when some youths from the area accosted and hacked him to death.

The corpse of the suspected robber was lying in a pool of blood while passersby who were on their way to midweek service and market were seen running away from the scene.

The Benue State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.

Anene stated that the Police couldn’t ascertain on whether the deceased was actually a robber as nobody has come to make formal report of any church theft.



She said the corpse has been deposited at a mogue in Makurdi.
